Programs
Montessori children grow up to be self-motivated learners, and this is why The Discovery School has a reputation for educational excellence. Graduates from The Discovery School typically score significantly above grade level in reading, writing, and arithmetic on national achievement tests. Their Montessori education has fostered qualities such as initiative, concentration, self-discipline, a sense of order, persistence in completing a task, responsibility, creative self-expression, and good study habits.
Field Trips
Field trips are an integral part of a Montessori education. The exposure to information found at numerous sites in the community serves to round out a child's research, a child’s understanding of concepts, and to expand each child’s database of stimuli.
Some of the traditional yearly excursions include trips to museums, local bird sanctuaries, the Gladys Porter Zoo, South Padre Island Marine Lab, the dolphin watch, theater and symphony productions, the fire station, and visits to places of academic interest.
Daycare Services
Extended daycare services are provided for enrolled Discovery School students. Extended daycare is available from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. Daycare may be prearranged on a monthly basis or on an hourly basis.
